Instruct-ERIC offers sincere condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Professor Vladimir Sklenar, who had sadly died last week.
Vladi was instrumental during establishment of CEITEC, coordinator of its Structural Biology research programme and Deputy Director for Research Infrastructure of CEITEC Masaryk University and Chair of the Czech Infrastructure for Integrative Structural Biology (CIISB). Vladi was also the Czech representative on the Instruct-ERIC Council and Executive Committee – he has been part of the Instruct family since the very beginning, even before its official formation in 2011.
Harald Schwalbe, Instruct director: “Vladi was a close friend of mine. He helped me learn NMR of DNA and RNA. I always listened and followed his advice. For me personally, for the NMR community and for Instruct, Vladi’s death is a great loss. Our thoughts are with his wonderful wife, his family and his friends.”

Professor Sklenar achieved his title in 1997, in physical chemistry. He specialised in NMR spectroscopy and other resonance techniques within structural biology.
For Instruct, Vladi organised the third Biennial Structural Biology Conference in Brno in 2017, and has been an active member of the Instruct team over the years.
