R&D Project Awards

Instruct runs a number of schemes providing researchers with the opportunity to focus on R&D within Integrated Structural Biology. In 2025 Instruct will run 3 such schemes:

Instruct-ERIC R&D Pilot Award Scheme:

The Instruct-ERIC R&D pilot award is open to Early Career Researchers (as defined in ERC criteria). Applications are invited across all areas of Integrated Structural Biology, but must contain aspects of technology or software development, as well as accessing technologies or expertise at one or more Instruct centres. Projects from this R&D call will be funded up to a maximum of €15,000, with funds covering research expenses but not normally salaries or overheads. Projects should aim to generate preliminary data and results which can be used to secure funding for future project grants.

Instruct-ERIC Technology Development R&D call:

The Instruct-ERIC Technology Development (TechDev) Call offers funding for pilot projects in technology development on specific topics. Similar to the R&D Pilot Funding Scheme, the TechDev call provides funding for pilot projects. However, the aim of the TechDev call is to develop new technologies and methodologies which will become available at Instruct centres, and can then be accessed by integrated structural biology researchers worldwide. To reflect this, projects from this call will be funded up to a maximum value of €30,000 per project. The TechDev call is also topic-specific, and in 2025 we will be inviting applications within the area of “AI tools for Integrated Structural Biology”.

Instruct-ERIC Industry Cofund Award:

Opening in Mid 2025, the Instruct-ERIC Industry Cofund award is a newly introduced award aimed at fostering collaborations between Structural Biologists and Industrial Partners. Funding from Instruct-ERIC and an industrial partner will be used to support R&D projects across any area of Integrated Structural Biology. Watch out for further updates!
