Overview of the role

Instruct-ERIC provides services in structural biology to the European community, supporting primarily academic researchers but working to expand this community to include better integration with industry and other new user groups. The Instruct Hub coordinates and manages the central operation of Instruct activities, overseeing all administrative procedures to deliver the objectives of Instruct to its users, and supporting the governance of Instruct. In addition to the core activities Instruct participates in European funded projects aiming to improve research infrastructure provision. The main focus of the post is to provide project management support for Instruct-ERIC Horizon Europe funded projects. Instruct-ERIC is looking for an enthusiastic early-career scientist looking for the opportunity to learn project management and administrative processes relevant to the operation of a distributed research infrastructure in the life sciences domain.

You will work with a diverse group of people and you will have regular personal contact with the:

Instruct Director

Instruct Coordinator

Senior Programme and Project Managers

Technical and financial staff

You will also have broad contact with third parties across Europe and internationally through email, telephone and tele/videoconference.

 

Responsibilities/duties

Responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to management of Horizon Europe Instruct Projects
  • Contribute to the running of Instruct services through the ARIA management system;
  • Organise and support Instruct-ERIC project meetings, workshops, conferences and other events as required, including planning, budgeting and reporting of events;
  • Track resource use, budget and timeframe for delivery of activities against the Instruct project work

  • Education and Qualifications - PhD or equivalent qualification in a life sciences subject, preferably structural biology (E)
  • Professional experience - Interest in international project management and desire to work in a highly international environment (E)
  • Previous project management experience (D)
  • Functional competencies and technical skills - Well-developed organisational skills to manage workload, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines (E)
  • Competence with mainstream software packages and ability to learn new applications as required (E)
  • Ability to balance a meticulous attention to detail with a realistic view of what’s needed to get the job done (E)
  • A flexible approach, self-motivation and resilience – able to work independently and seek guidance when needed (E)
  • Interpersonal and Communication skills - Fluency in English (E)
  • Second European language (D)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively (E)
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills (E)
