Early Career Symposium Industry Transition Toolkit: Skills for Success Beyond Academia

Meeting
Date: 09-Nov-2026

Join us for our annual Early Career Symposium. This year, we'll help you uncover the strengths and transferable skills you've gained through your experience and learn how to position them for opportunities in industry.

Put together by a Programme Committee of professionals with a wealth of experience across industry and academic sectors, this session will aim to identify the skills you have, the skills you will need, and how you can apply these in successful industry careers.

The session is targeted at those across the early career spectrum (late-stage PhD students, postdocs and beyond). Whether you are based in academia and considering a move to industry or have recently transitioned to industry and want to understand how you can build on your career, this session is for you.

The event will include networking breaks and end with a networking drinks reception, providing ample opportunity for learning, discussion, and networking amongst fellow early career researchers.

This event is FREE for Biochemical Society members; a £30 deposit is required to secure your place, which will be refunded following the event. The non-member registration fee is £30.

Please note, this is not a careers event and will not feature industry talks, these sessions are skills focused and will aim to empower participants to identify the skills they have for a transition from academia to industry.

Reception

The event will be followed by a networking drinks reception for you to connect with fellow ECR members of the Biochemical Society.
