Bridging Gaps Between Cell, Structural and Computational Biology

Conference
Date: 23-Jun-2024 to 28-Jun-2024

The Three Dimensional Electron Microscopy GRC is a premier, international scientific conference focused on advancing the frontiers of science through the presentation of cutting-edge and unpublished research, prioritising time for discussion after each talk and fostering informal interactions among scientists of all career stages. The conference program includes a diverse range of speakers and discussion leaders from institutions and organisations worldwide, concentrating on the latest developments in the field. The conference is five days long and held in a remote location to increase the sense of camaraderie and create scientific communities, with lasting collaborations and friendships. In addition to premier talks, the conference has designated time for poster sessions from individuals of all career stages, and afternoon free time and communal meals allow for informal networking opportunities with leaders in the field.

We live in an age of accelerating technological innovation and explosion of information that is unlike anything we have seen before. The 2024 GRC on 3D Electron Microscopy will continue its tradition of spotlighting cutting-edge results and recent method developments in a highly interactive and open-minded environment. The scientific agenda of the meeting will continue to reflect the revolutionary advances in all aspects of high-resolution imaging with electron microscopy, including structural studies of dynamic multi-protein complexes using cryo-EM, analysis of sub-cellular architecture using cryo-electron tomography as well as novel methods for specimen preparation and correlative imaging. The meeting will also highlight accelerating advances in machine learning based methods for structure prediction and protein design. The developments at the interface between tools for high resolution imaging and machine learning methods have significant implications not just in structural and cell biology, but also in drug discovery. The meeting will provide a unique mixture of scientific oral and poster presentations, and ample opportunities to exchange ideas and discuss the challenges and opportunities in the 3DEM field among senior and junior scientists, mentors and trainees, established cryo-EM experts and new-comers, and researchers across academia and industry. Following the tradition of 3DEM GRCs, the 2024 meeting encourages participants to present recent and unpublished scientific results, in both oral and poster presentations. Two evening sessions are dedicated to presentations selected from posters at the meeting. Due to the growing popularity of the field, the meeting has been heavily oversubscribed in recent years and therefore early applications are encouraged. Please provide an abstract emphasising the unique and novel aspects of your work, and for junior members of the community, please include the name of your advisor/PI.

Carlos Oscar Sorzano of CNB-CSIC (Instruct-ES) will be giving a talk on advanced image processing during the conference.

The deadline to register for the meeting is 23 May 2024.
