Instruct-ERIC Newsletter
Summer 2025

Instruct has had a long-term commitment to equality and diversity throughout its lifespan – democratised access to structural biology technologies is a fundamental core principle of how Instruct operates. 2025 has already seen evidence of this as Instruct has further expanded its technology and service offering with a new Centre in Germany, and expanded Centre in Spain. Additionally, Instruct’s announcement as winners of the European Commission Gender Equality Prize is testament to Instruct’s efforts and successes in promoting gender equality and diversity in its practices and in the structural biology community.

Gender Equality Prize

Instruct was awarded the European Commission Gender Equality Prize 2024 in the Newcomer Category. At a ceremony in Brussels, Instruct was recognised as advancing gender equality in structural biology and promoting diversity and equality in its practices and activities. Find out more here.

Research Site - Latvia

Instruct added a new Research Site, in Latvia. Instruct Research Sites provide training events and a national hub for structural biology research within Instruct. Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre (LBMC) and Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis (LIOS), both based in Riga. Find out more here.

Instruct-ERIC Science Highlights

Using Robotein Protein Production and Biophysical Techniques to Select Molecular Probes for Lyme Borreliosis Diagnosis

Protein purification and biophysical characterisation is one of the founding and fundamental building blocks of structural biology. As an initial step for understanding the quality of the purified sample before functional and/or structural analysis, these techniques are a crucial asset to the structural biology community. Studies from Guérin et al (2024, and 2025), demonstrates the uses of such techniques, following their work at Robotein in Instruct-BE, as part of the ISIDORe project. Find out more here.
