Instruct-ERIC has signed a joint declaration along with several other European research institutions, outlining commitments to gender equality and the gender dimension in research and innovation.
Read the full declaration here.
This follows Instruct's announcement as winners of the EC Gender Equality Prize in the Newcomer category, presented at the award ceremony in Brussels, in March 2025.
Key extracts from the declaration include:
As European institutions in higher education, research and innovation, and winners of the EU Award for Gender Equality Champions1, we reaffirm our commitment to gender equality, in line with the Ljubljana Declaration (2021)2. Significant progress towards gender equality has been made in recent years, although inequalities persist and the gender dimension is still often overlooked in research contents.
International cooperation and mobility are essential, as scientific excellence has no borders. Our institutions have long-standing collaborations with many different countries outside Europe and many efforts have been made to increase the participation of women in such collaborations and provide equal opportunities.
...We aim to reinforce the sustainability of inclusive gender equality policies by sharing best practices and integrating joint actions, with the active support of the European Commission.
Instruct will also be organising the latest Women in Science Workshop, held in Brussels in May 2026, as satellite to Instruct Biennial Structural Biology Conference. Find out more about the workshop here.
