Instruct-ERIC at ICRI2022

26-Oct-2022

ICRI2022 (The International Conference on Research Infrastructures 2022) was a fantastic week for Instruct-ERIC, speaking and presenting at several events throughout the conference.

Instruct’s involvement in the conference has been as part of the main plenary conference, as well as several side events and satellite programmes, as well as the significant announcement of a new MOU signing with CNPEM in Brazil, and a second MOU with other European research infrastructures!

ICRI Main Session

Claudia Alen Amaro, Senior Programme Manager at Instruct-ERIC, gave a talk on Instruct’s activites and experiences in providing transnational access (TNA), to help answer questions surrounding the bottlenecks facing TNA across regions – citing Instruct’s work with Latin America.

Silke Schumacher, Instruct-ERIC Coordinator, featured at the ICRI session on the challenges of multinational research infrastructures, outlining Instruct’s initiatives on an international scale, both at its core and in partnership with European projects such as RI-VIS and EU-LAC ResInfra.

EU-LAC ResInfra Satellite Event

Instruct-ERIC had two talks at the EU-LAC ResInfra Satellite Event. The first was an opportunity to outline Instruct’s successes and activities as part of the EU-LAC ResInfra project, including:

Two International Calls allowing Latin American researchers to access and collaborate with European facilities

The ongoing staff exchanges, long-term exchanges between Latin American and European facilities to share experiences and technology best practices.

The Landscape Analysis Report highlighted at the EU-LAC ResInfra Satellite Event

The newly launched Latin American Structural Biology Landscape Analysis Report, which aimed to understand the barriers and challenges facing researchers in the region, and provided recommendations for the research community and policy makers.

Ongoing joint calls between both regions to help provide benefits for researchers beyond the timescale of the EU-LAC ResInfra project.

The second talk went into much greater detail of the Landscape Analysis Report, providing an overview of the results and feedback, and helped to outline the significant conclusions directly to policy makers in Latin America.

MOU Signature with CNPEM

Instruct-ERIC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Brazilian Centre for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM), as part of the ICRI MOU session.

Find out more about the MOU signature here.

MOU Signature between Instruct, Euro-BioImaging, and EU-OPENSCREEN

The MOU session at ICRI also saw Instruct-ERIC sign an agreement with life science research infrastructures, Euro-BioImaging and EU-OPENSCREEN. We are very much looking forward to increasing our collaboration with RIs that we have worked with so much on various projects in recent years!

RI-VIS and eRImote Side Event

As coordinator of the RI-VIS Project, Instruct-ERIC organised the RI-VIS side event at ICRI, providing an opportunity to reflect on the outcomes of the project, and look to the future – assessing how research infrastructures can continue to enhance their own visibility, and continue to collaborate across RIs and regions.

The event was conducted in cooperation with the eRImote project, providing insight into how remote research can be developed in the coming years. Find out more about eRImote here.

MOSBRI Workshop

Claudia Alen Amaro was also a central figure at the MOSBRI Workshop, analysing the long-term sustainability of European projects for distributed RIs (such as Instruct-ERIC).

ISIDORe Side Event

Silke Schumacher sat on the panel discussion at the ISIDORe Side Event, which took the opportunity to discuss the impacts of the project so far in providing funding for access to advanced structural biology services for infectious disease research.
