Position description:
ALPX is an EMBL Spin-off Company located in Grenoble, France (http://alpx-services.com). We offer innovative research services based on the CrystalDirect technology for structural biology and small-molecule drug discovery to the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. Starting in 2025, we will also offer a rapid and agile Single Particle Analysis cryo-Electron Microscopy (SPA cryo-EM) full service, encompassing everything from cryo-EM sample preparation to structure determination.
We seek a highly motivated single-particle cryo-EM specialist to join the ALPX team.
The successful candidate will contribute to a range of exciting structural biology and drug discovery projects and participate in the development of our sample-to-solution cryo-EM service, with a particular focus on automating on-the-fly and offline data processing. Responsibilities include single-particle data acquisition and analysis, implementation and optimization of cryo-EM data storage, on-the-fly data processing, and high-quality structure elucidation and interpretation. The candidate will also assist in writing project proposals, working with various cryo-EM platforms, traveling for data collection, and preparing presentations on structural data for the project team and clients.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
· Ph.D. in chemistry, biology, physics, or a related field, with an excellent track record
· Multiple cryo-EM map/structure depositions and peer-reviewed publications
· Demonstrated extensive experience in hands-on TEM operation (Tecnai T12, Glacios, Titan Krios), data acquisition, image processing, model building
· Strong expertise in a variety of cryo-EM and structural analysis software (i.e., Relion, CryoSPARC, EMAN, CCPEM, Chimera and COOT)
· Experience in high-resolution structure determination by cryo-EM, including model building from scratch and structure refinement (Cccp4 and Phenix)
· Scripting experience (Shell, Python)
· Team player with the ability to work on several projects in parallel
· Strong oral and written English communication and organisation skills
Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:
· Experience in SPA cryo-EM on membrane proteins and epitopes mapping
· Experience in Industry/CRO/CMO
· Familiarity with HPC and Cloud Platforms
· Experience in cryo-electron tomography (Cryo-ET) and sub-tomogram averaging
