Syngenta are seeking a highly talented and motivated protein crystallographer, to join Syngenta on a permanent basis, who is keen to work on a variety of scientific areas within an exciting and dedicated industrial environment. The Department is based at Jealott's Hill, Bracknell, Berkshire, UK.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in structural biology and will be skilled at protein crystallization, crystal optimisation and protein engineering for crystallography, ideally across different protein targets. Experience in X-ray data collection and knowledge of X-ray structure analysis is desirable and experience of additional structure solution techniques such as cryo-EM would be deemed a significant advantage.
The successful candidate will be a key member of the crystallography team, providing outputs to support chemistry design throughout R&D as well as external collaborations. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work in multi-disciplinary project teams are important for this position.
Responsibilities:
o Provide guidance for construct design, expression and purification, resulting in proteins suitable for crystallography
o Characterize proteins intended for crystallization and carry out crystallization trials, crystal optimization and structure solution for proteins and protein-ligand complexes
o Effectively communicate results through presentations, e-mails and reports
o Actively seek to broaden understanding of other disciplines due to the nature of the multi-disciplinary science
Experience required:
o PhD in a structural biology related discipline is essential
o Insoluble and membrane protein crystallography, from expression through to structure determination including relevant software
