Bristol Myers Squibb ( BMS ) in Princeton NJ is looking for an experienced Principal Scientist to join our team. In the role as a Principal scientist within Molecular Structure and Design, the ideal candidate’s responsibilities will be to:
Maintain and supervise the day-to-day operations of a cryoEM facility including a Titan Krios microscope and IT data management to ensure smooth operation and best quality data acquisition.
Train and mentor scientists in sample preparation and EM data collection.
Support cryo-EM data collection needs for Molecular Structure & Design Structural Biology group and may aid cryo-EM data collection needs for other functional groups.
Support and interact with research program leaders and scientists to enable protein structure determination by cryoEM in support of drug discovery projects.
Develop and implement proactive approaches to new technology and processes including micro-ED and cryo-ET platforms
May lead initiatives related to continuous improvement or development of new approaches / technologies within a department / function
Present supportive arguments for complex ideas and projects to multidisciplinary, cross-departmental meetings in a way that persuades them to adopt a different point of view, when appropriate.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree with 8+ years of academic and / or industry experience
Or
Master’s Degree with 6+ years of academic and / or industry experience
Or
Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences, Chemistry, Physics or related stream with 4+ years of academic and / or industry experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Structural Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field with 4+ years of academic and / or industry experience working in a laboratory-based research setting.
Experience in operation and maintenance of an EM facility.
Requires advanced knowledge of principles, concepts and / or methodologies applicable to a wide range of work in the field of electron microscopy.
A record of scientific publication employing the skills listed above.
Familiarity with experiment documentation using electronic lab notebook and laboratory information management system (LIMS) systems.
Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
