The Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen with about 850 employees pursues a strong interdisciplinary approach by combining the classical natural sciences - biology, chemistry, and physics. The Department for Theoretical and Computational Biophysics, headed by Prof. Dr. Helmut Grubmüller, aims at an understanding of the physics and function of proteins, protein complexes, and other biomolecular structures at the atomic level and invites young scientists to apply for the open position as:
Requirements
Candidates are expected to hold a PhD and have an outstanding record of internationally competitive research accomplishments in the field of computational biophysics. Applicants must be highly interactive and willing and able to collaborate smoothly with experts from all natural sciences’ disciplines. In order to facilitate a complementary research environment at the department, expertise in one or several of the fields photo-reactions and excited states dynamics in condensed phase, charge transfer reactions and dynamics, single molecule X-ray scattering simulations and analysis, multiscale modelling, and/or Markov states and ensemble simulations, is particularly welcome.
The junior research group will benefit from a supplementary infrastructure, state of the art technical equipment and an established collaboration with the University of Göttingen for example through SFB projects or PhD programs such as IMPRS or GAUSS.
The full-time position is time limited to five years in the first instance with the possibility of extension. The payment and benefits are based on the German TVöD guidelines. Candidates providing independent third party funding, for example from the DFG (Emmy-Noether program), ERC starting grants or similar, are most welcome to apply.
The Max Planck Society is trying to increase the percentage of women on its scientific staff and strongly encourages applications from qualified women. The Max Planck Society is committed to employing more handicapped individuals and especially encourages them to apply.
