Jobs in Structural Biology and Related Fields

Postdoctoral Position

Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Caparica, Portugal
Application deadline: 22 Oct 2013

The Macromolecular Crystallography Group from FCT (Universidade Nova de Lisboa, UNL) in Caparica (http://xtal.dq.fct.unl.pt/) is seeking a motivated researcher to work as a post-doctoral fellow, in the project “Ionic liquid-based systems for protein crystallization”, Ref. PTDC/BBB-BEP/3058/2012 financed by the Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation.

The aim of the proposed work is to get a deeper understanding of the mechanisms underlying the effect of ionic liquids (ILs) on the conformational changes of biomacromolecules in solution, so that IL-based novel approaches to protein crystallization can be developed.

Work will be carried out in the Macromolecular Crystallography Lab (http://xtal.dq.fct.unl.pt/) at FCT-UNL, Caparica (www.fct.unl.ptin close collaboration with the Molecular Thermodynamics Lab and Dr. Magdalena Kowacz, ITQB, Oeiras (www.itqb.unl.pt).

The candidates should hold a PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field. Although not mandatory, preference will be given to candidates with experience in protein expression and purification, macromolecular crystallization and X-ray crystallography.

Applications are open until October 22nd and must follow the requirements announced in the ERA Careers website (http://www.eracareers.pt/opportunities/index.aspx?task=global&jobId=39313) (in Portuguese). To apply, candidates should send a motivation letter, curriculum vitae and references to Dr Ana Luisa Carvalho: almc@fct.unl.pt.
