POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN STRUCTURAL BIOPHYSICSMarassi Laboratory – Department of Biophysics – Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW)

The Marassi laboratory, in the Department of Biophysics at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), invites applications for a Postdoctoral position in the area of structural biology based primarily on biomolecular nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Research projects focus on protein-protein, protein-lipid, and protein-biomineral interactions in the context of diseases of aging (macular degeneration and Alzheimer's disease) and host-pathogen encounters, with a strong focus on cellular and near-native samples.  Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or a closely related field, and should have experience in protein biochemistry and/or biomolecular structure determination.

The Department of Biophysics at MCW has a rich history of innovation and unique expertise in the areas of structural biology and biomedical imaging, including EPR (electronic paramagnetic resonance), NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance), and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). State-of-the-art research resources are available for NMR in solution and the solid-state, EPR, MRI, X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy, mass spectrometry, biomolecular analysis, and high-performance computing.

MCW is Wisconsin’s largest private research institution and the third-largest private medical school in the nation. Its focus on basic science and academic medicine brings together scientists, clinicians, and students to advance biomedical knowledge and human health.

Located 90 miles north of Chicago and along the western shore of beautiful Lake Michigan, Milwaukee is one of America’s great cities, combining a dynamic urban community and rich cultural heritage with access to parks, rivers, and lakes. National Geographic named Milwaukee one of its "Best of the World" destinations for 2023 – one of only five places in the United States and 25 across the globe. The city is a popular venue for watersports, ethnic dining, music, and cultural festivals, and is recognized for its museums, music scene, historic architecture, professional sports, and parks. Milwaukee has affordable housing of all types, and excellent public and parochial schools. Neighborhoods are known for character, variety, and architecture, offering a superb quality of life.
