The departments “Microbial Natural Products” led by Prof. Dr. Rolf Müller at the Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS; Saarbrücken, Germany) and “Structure and Function of Proteins (SFPR) led by Prof. Dr. Wulf Blankenfeldt at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI; Braunschweig, Germany) are offering the position of a Research associate / Postdoc (f/m/d) The Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research GmbH (HZI) is a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers, the largest scientific organization in Germany. Scientists at the different locations of HZI develop strategies to better combat infectious diseases.
Their goal is to develop novel approaches for the prevention, diagnosis and therapy of infectious diseases. To this end, they study bacterial and viral pathogens and their interaction with the immune system and explore new active ingredients. The department “Microbial Natural Products” employs and develops methods to discover medically valuable substances of microbial origin and to understand their biogenesis. The department “Structure and Function of Proteins” determines the three-dimensional structure of biomolecules to understand their function and make them accessible for medicinal purposes. The focus of both departments lies in the field of antibiotics research. A 200 kV cryo electron microscope is currently being installed at HZI in Braunschweig to optimize samples for high resolution data collection on 300 kV systems of the Centre for Systems Structural Biology (CSSB; Hamburg, Germany), one of the partner institutes of HZI.
