Higher Scientific Officer Position Available at The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), London

The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), London, United Kingdom
Application deadline: 21 Jul 2024

A Higher Scientific Officer positions in recombinant protein purification is available in Dr Rob van Montfort’s Hit Discovery and Structural Design Team within the CCDD (see link below), to strengthen our research in targeted protein degradation as part of our Centre for Protein Degradation (CPD). The team uses biochemical and biophysical assays to perform small-molecule high-throughput screening and fragment-based hit discovery, coupled with X-ray crystallography to enable structure-based drug design. These methodologies are underpinned by state-of-the art protein expression, purification and biophysical characterisation capabilities, allowing for the generation of large quantities of high-quality protein targets. We are seeking highly motivated scientists to join the team, with expertise in protein expression, protein purification and biophysics. The successful candidates will be responsible for the expression and purification of proteins studied in the CPD. In addition, they will be responsible for establishing Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) and other relevant biophysical assays such as Thermal Shift Assay (TSA) and ligand-observed NMR (LO-NMR) to characterise their protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions. The HSO will be integral member of a multidisciplinary project team within the CPD and CCDD at the Sutton campus of the ICR, and will interact closely with biologists, computational chemists, medicinal chemists, assay scientists and structural biologists.

Applicants must have at least a BSc in a biochemistry or related biological subject, and ideally an MSc or PhD. Experience and demonstrable skills in molecular biology, protein expression in E. coli and protein purification are essential. Demonstrable experience in biophysical techniques, especially SPR, is also a requirement. Experience in protein expression in insect/mammalian cells is highly desirable. The starting salary will be in the range £37,050 to £45,732 p.a. inclusive (based on previous postdoctoral experience).

The posts are offered on a fixed term contract of 2 years. Informal enquiries to rob.vanmontfort@icr.ac.uk or yann-vai.lebihan@icr.ac.uk.

Please DO NOT send your application to Dr van Montfort or Dr Le Bihan, but apply via the e-recruitment system on our website.
