The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and the Life Sciences Institute at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC, Canada, seeks a full time electron cryo-microscopist to manage and work within a newly established macromolecular cryo-EM laboratory. This facility houses a 300kV Titan Krios and Falcon III direct electron detector with plans for future expansion. The facility will enable research from existing users at UBC with established strengths in structural biology and cryo-EM as well as less expert users from across UBC and the province. A highly competitive salary and benefits package can be offered commensurate with qualifications and experience. Vancouver is routinely voted as one of the world’s most liveable and beautiful cities.
The Department are looking for a highly motivated candidate with demonstrated experience in all aspects of high resolution single particle (macromolecular) analysis methods, including grid preparation, data collection and image processing methods and software. The successful candidate will care for instrumentation including ongoing monitoring/troubleshooting of performance issues, and scheduling/oversight of routine and one-off vendor maintenance as needed. He/She will also meet with potential users, discuss projects, help choose experimental approaches and train users in operation and safety of the microscope facility.
The successful candidate will have a PhD degree in a discipline related field with extensive experience in single particle macromolecular cryoEM; previous facility experience working with trainees and faculty in EM research and education an asset.
Applicants should provide a brief statement of relevant research experience in cryoEM. A CV and three references should be sent to the contact below. The position is open for immediate hire until filled, with an initial one year appointment and the possibility of long term extension.
