EMBL Heidelberg are looking for a cryo-electron microscopy and/or tomography (cryo-EM/ET) specialist to join the Structural and Computational Biology (SCB) Unit at the facility.

EMBL Heidelberg hosts world-class cryo-electron microscopy facilities for internal and external users with a particular focus on cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET). You will assist and support users during sample preparation and cryo-EM data collection in EMBL Heidelberg’s cryo-EM facilities that include four Titan Krios, one Talos Arctica, one Glacios, and two Aquilos microscopes.

Furthermore, you will implement, develop and maintain microscope hardware and software as part of a larger team comprising microscopy application specialists, method developers and image analysists having the mission of highest-level research and technology development in cryo-EM, cryo-ET and cryo-CLEM.

 

The Role
You will be responsible for:

  • Introducing and training users to cryo-EM technologies and auxiliary equipment, including assistance and troubleshooting in sample preparation;
  • Training researchers to effectively use cryo-EM/ET and cryo-FIB-SEM technologies; the opportunity to learn in situ cryo-ET and cryo-FIB-SEM will be provided;
  • Maintenance and development of cryo-electron microscope hardware and software infrastructure at an advanced level;
  • Ensuring smooth running of the instrumentation, interacting with service engineers and helping to maintain and develop the local infrastructure;
  • Staying up to date with the latest developments in cryo-EM methodologies and implementing workflows tailored for cutting-edge cryo-EM applications in the life sciences;
  • Helping with the organisation and teaching of electron microscopy courses for the user community.
