There is a position just opened for an assistant/associate professor within the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Cambridge.

 

The research the Department covers is a wide range of topics in biochemistry and are particularly strong in structural biology with great facilities for cryo-EM, crystallography, NMR and biophysics.

 

The Department of Biochemistry is a supportive and collaborative research community with interests in a broad range of topics, including Chemical Biology & Drug Design, Disease Biology, DNA & Chromatin Biology, Molecular Microbiology, Plant Biochemistry & Bioenergy, RNA Biology, Signalling & Trafficking, Stem Cell Biology, and Systems Biology. 

 

Junior faculty are assigned a mentoring committee that advises them on all aspects of setting up a successful research group. They also receive grant writing and submission support, and can recruit from a diverse pool of PhD students from various programs across the University. The appointment provides access to state of the art animal facilities and core facilities for imaging, proteomics, and genomics.

 

The Department is part of the School of Biological Sciences and is also closely associated with the Gurdon Institute, Cambridge Stem Cell Institute, MRC Toxicology Unit and provides many opportunities for interactions with the broader Cambridge community. 

Key responsibilities include teaching undergraduates; conducting world-leading research; advising postgraduate students and post-docs; and other duties associated with academic life. There is the opportunity to become a Fellow of a College.

 

Applicants will have a PhD in a relevant subject area and show evidence of leading a successful research programme. Demonstrated strong commitment to teaching and advising is desired.
