The Centre for Chemical structure Analysis at the University of Vienna is offering a 2-years postdoc position. The project is a joint project with the Detector group at the Paul Scherrer Institut. A JUNGFRAU detector will be combined with a JEOL Transmission Electron Microscope for advanced data collection and aims at reaching a new level of data quality in ED.

Job description

• Integrate a state-of-the-art hybrid pixel detector (JUNGFRAU) in a modern electron microscope in collaboration with the detector experts at Paul Scherrer Institut (CH).
• Optimise data collection process by lininkg the JUNGFRAU detector with the con-trol system of the TEM JEOL JEM2100Plus
• Optimise data processing parameters
• Collect diffraction data of benchmark systems as well as novel compounds for structure determination.
• Present your result in scientific papers and on conferences.

Your profile

• Completed doctoral/PhD studies in natural, engineering, or computer science (or in any of multiple related subjects)
• Strong background in crystallography, preferably of organic or metal-organic com-pounds.

• You love tinkering and solving puzzles
• Research competence and initiative proven through international publications in peer- relevant media
• Ideally, you have experience with computing and programming (python, c++, script-ing)
• You like to work in an interdisciplinary and international project.
• You can communicate clearly in English and translate problems between different scientific domains
• Team player and high social/communicative skills
