The position requires the candidate to combine a solid scientific foundation with a strong commercial interest, have the ability to work independently, and to be a great networker with excellent communication skills. The Application Scientist for Life Sciences TEM will work closely with top specialists in electron microscopy at leading research institutes in Life Sciences, ensuring that early adopters of new Thermo Scientific technology are successful in obtaining optimal results from their microscope. This role reports into their applications Manager Life Sciences and is part of a team of 15 life science application specialists and requires intense travelling (up to 70%).

The Application Scientist also serves as a scientific ambassador for Thermo Scientific at the customer location. Operating at the cutting edge of science and nanotechnology, the Application Scientist is responsible for advanced customer training and the (scientific) results achieved, as well as for providing the customer with an efficient inroad into Thermo Fisher Scientific.

• Typically requires a Masters or preferably a PhD in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Biophysics or Structural Biology, with strong post academic background demonstrating expertise in critical microscopy application areas (sample preparation, cryo-EM data collection and processing)
• Typically requires approximately 5 years of experience in high-end electron-microscopy in an advanced research (academia or industry) environment
• Experience in interacting with multiple stakeholders in a professional environment
• Confident, determined and people-oriented
• Capacity to work independently as well as in teams
• Strong communicative and inter-cultural skills (verbal and non-verbal)
• Willingness to very frequent traveling (up to 70%)
